Indications
Dermatological Conditions: Widely used as a primary treatment for severe inflammatory acne vulgaris and rosacea.

Respiratory Tract Infections: Effective against community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and sinusitis.

Genitourinary Infections: Indicated for uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), non-gonococcal urethritis, and cervicitis.

Malaria Prophylaxis: Used as a preventive measure for travelers visiting malaria-endemic regions where resistance to other antimalarials is high.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Effective against syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea (often as part of a multi-drug regimen).

Rickettsial Infections: The treatment of choice for Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus group fevers, and Q fever.

Ocular Infections: Used for the treatment of trachoma and inclusion conjunctivitis.

Bacterial Inhibition: Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping the replication of pathogens and allowing the body’s immune system to clear the infection.

Broad-Spectrum Efficacy: It covers a vast range of pathogens, including atypical bacteria like Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae.

Gut Health Protection: The addition of Lactic Acid Bacillus (probiotic) protects the intestinal environment. Antibiotics often kill “good” bacteria, leading to dysbiosis; DXL-100 replenishes these spores to maintain a healthy microbiome.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Beyond killing bacteria, Doxycycline has independent anti-inflammatory effects, which is why it is so beneficial in treating chronic skin conditions like acne.

Malaria Prevention: It interferes with the life cycle of the Plasmodium parasite, making it a reliable prophylactic agent for global travelers.

Management of Secondary Infections: Often used in cases where secondary bacterial infections occur following a viral illness.

Adult Dosage: The usual dose is one capsule twice daily (every 12 hours) or as specifically directed by your physician. For acne or long-term prophylaxis, a once-daily dose may be prescribed.

Course Duration: Finish the entire course of DXL-100. Stopping early can lead to antibiotic resistance, making future infections much harder to treat.

Storage Environment: Store in a cool, dry place, ideally below 25°C. Excessive heat can neutralize the Lactic Acid Bacillus spores.

Protection from Light: Keep the capsules in their original Alu-Alu or blister strip to protect them from direct sunlight and moisture.

Safety: Keep the medicine out of the reach of children. Tetracyclines can be harmful to developing teeth and bones in young children.

Fluid Intake: Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. This is critical to ensure the capsule reaches the stomach quickly and does not cause irritation in the food pipe.

Upright Position: Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking DXL-100. Staying upright helps prevent esophageal ulceration.

Relationship with Food: While Doxycycline can be taken with food if stomach upset occurs, avoid taking it with dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt) or calcium supplements, as calcium binds to the drug and reduces its absorption.

Timing: For malaria prophylaxis, start the medication 1-2 days before entering the endemic area and continue for 4 weeks after leaving.

No Crushing: Do not break or chew the capsule, as this can interfere with the controlled release of the medicine and the probiotic spores.

Photosensitivity Warning: DXL-100 increases your skin’s sensitivity to UV light. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use high-SPF sunscreen to prevent severe sunburn.

Pregnancy and Nursing: This medication is contraindicated during pregnancy (especially the second and third trimesters) and breastfeeding, as it can cause permanent tooth discoloration and affect bone development in the fetus or infant.

Children’s Usage: Generally not recommended for children under 8 years of age due to the risk of permanent staining of the teeth (yellow-gray-brown).

Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are taking antacids, iron supplements, or blood thinners (Warfarin), as these can interact with Doxycycline.

Oral Contraceptives: Antibiotics may slightly reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. Consider using an additional barrier method of contraception during treatment.

Alcohol: Limit alcohol consumption, as chronic alcohol use can increase the metabolism of Doxycycline, making it less effective.

Photosensitivity
Diarrhea
Nausea
Vaginal yeast infection
Abdominal pain
